A collection of hand-crafted gourd art pieces with signed literature by noted artist Robert Rivera (American, 20th century), a world-renowned gourd artist of Native American Apache and Spanish descent. Included is a small painted owl gourd, signed ‘Robert © 2011’. Another gourd is shaped like a man’s head, embellished with black striped painted rope, and other embellishments including red and brown leather ties and turquoise colored beads, which is signed Robert ©10 2015’. An intricately painted gourd with a light blue body is crafted and hand-painted in the style of a Hopi Kachina figure, featuring geometric designs painted on the face, and down the front of the ‘body’. The figure wears a tall geometric black headdress, and is embellished with turquoise and other beads. It is signed ‘Robert Rivera ©96 – 10/22/96’. There are two smaller, similar Hopi-style gourd figures, also embellished with intricate geometric designs in various colors. They both have painted wood ‘feather’ headdresses and are embellished with turquoise stone earrings. These are both marked Robert Rivera ©1990 – 8-1-90’. There is a book Painted Gourds, signed by Robert Rivera, and published by Joan Gawley Gallery in 1993. There is a hardcover book titled Rivera: The Works of Robert Rivera which is signed by Robert Rivera along with the date ‘8/31/07’. It is numbered 339/500. No copyright date or publisher.
