A watercolor painting on paper titled Embankment, Glendalough, created in 1997 by listed Chinese-American artist Mignonette Yin Cheng (1933-2009). This work features a loose impressionistic view of a river surrounded by a hilly landscape filling the background. Tree branches, rocks, and foliage, obscure a view of the water reflecting various colors. To the lower right, the painting is titled, dated, and signed ‘M.Y. Cheng’. It is presented under glass with white matting and a silver-tone metallic frame. A stamp from the Frame Factory is present to the verso.
Born in China, Cheng attended the Russian Art Academy in Shanghai and the Chao Shao-An Studio in Hong Kong. She immigrated to the United States, where she received her BFA and MFA at Ohio University. For over three decades, she taught at the University of Michigan School of Art. Cheng is known for her abstract compositions and watercolors of overseas landscapes.
