Mignonette Yin Cheng Abstract Oil Painting on Canvas
Item Details
An abstract oil painting on canvas created in 1974 by listed Chinese-American artist Mignonette Yin Cheng (1933-2009). This work features zig-zaging rectangular shapes filled with modulated yellows to appear three-dimensional and accented with blues, pinks, and greens along the modeled edges of the shapes. The painting is dated and signed ‘M. Cheng’ to the lower right. The sides of the stretched canvas are faced with black tape, and the painting is displayed in a simple brown wood frame.
Born in China, Cheng attended the Russian Art Academy in Shanghai and the Chao Shao-An Studio in Hong Kong. She immigrated to the United States, where she received her BFA and MFA at Ohio University. For over three decades, she taught at the University of Michigan School of Art. Cheng is known for her abstract compositions and watercolors of overseas landscapes.
