Pendleton "Maria Martinez Blanket" and Print

A Pendleton wool blanket designed by well-listed Native American potter Maria Antonia Montoya Martinez (Tewa, San Ildefonso Pueblo, 1881- 1980). The 62-inch by 78-inch blanket is marked ‘The Maria Martinez Blanket – American Indian College Fund’. It features a striking black on grey pattern of Navajo geometric symbols and was designed by Martinez, who was famous for her black-on-black pottery. The blanket comes with a framed reproduction offset lithograph photograph of Native American Hopi potter, Nampeyo, who is depicted as she paints a pot. The image is after the original photograph by Edward S. Curtis (American, 1868-1952). The print is presented with glass in a narrow metal frame and has information about the print affixed to the backing.
