Otis Studio Stoneware and Others

A small collection of terracotta and stoneware vessels. The featured vase was made at the Otis Studio in East Jordan, Mi. This vase is profusely decorated with a painted flowers on a dark ground using iron oxide containing Gerstley Borate for a sheen effect. It has been left in it’s bisque-fired state to the exterior with a mottled brown liner glaze. There is an incised mark reading ‘Joanne Otis’ on the base. Accompanying the vase are two brown bowls, one with a faceted form and speckled glazes made from terracotta and the other having a groggy stoneware body. There are molded shapes on the exterior left free of decoration save for white glaze on the recessed portions, having likely been gas fired. Marked with a cipher to the underside.
