A watercolor painting on paper titled Fontamenta Nani by listed Chinese-American artist Mignonette Yin Cheng (1933-2009). Created in 2003, this work features a loose impressionistic view of Venetian architecture along the canal, Fondamenta Nani. Prominently exhibited is the dome and bell tower of a church, possibly the San Trovaso church. To the lower right, the painting is dated ‘4/16/03’, titled, and signed with the artist’s monogram. It is presented under glass with white matting and a silver-tone metallic frame. A descriptive label from River Gallery Fine Art is adhered to the verso.
Born in China, Cheng attended the Russian Art Academy in Shanghai and the Chao Shao-An Studio in Hong Kong. She immigrated to the United States, where she received her BFA and MFA at Ohio University. For over three decades, she taught at the University of Michigan School of Art. Cheng is known for her abstract compositions and watercolors of overseas landscapes.
