19th-Century Louis XIII Style Gilt and Gesso Frame
Item Details
A 19th-century Louis XIII gesso and gilt frame. This piece features a plain sight edge with an ovolo running pattern. To the middle, a deep cove with interlocked acanthus and bell flowers design in a low relief with extreme undulating edges. To the sides, a straight reeded back edge. A ‘Marty Scherer’ informational gallery label is affixed to the verso. This frame includes the glass.
Condition
- missing gesso areas on frame. scuffing, craquelure, and dents to gesso and gilt finish revealing red undertones; paper remains and scratches to the verso of the frame; nail exposed to verso; glass would benefit from securing.
