A signed oil painting on canvas of a Hudson River School landscape, housed in a nineteenth-century Hudson River School style gilt and gesso frame. The painting features a peaceful landscape retreated from civilization, with a water pond surrounded by large rocks, grassy plain, trees, and foliage. Mountains are silhouetted in the background against a cloudy blue sky where birds fly. The last part of a faint signature to the lower right reads ‘Chase’. The nineteenth-century Hudson River School style frame features a thin ribbon-and-beaded molding surrounded by a cove hollow and a zig-zag-and-beaded molding along the outer edge. An inner cove is accented with large acanthus leaf motifs at the corners; the innermost part of the frame features a simple cavetto sight edge surrounded by beaded molding. A label from Marty Scherer Fine Paintings is adhered to the verso, along with a label from Lopez Restorations, Inc. A tag is attached to the verso marked with a stamp that reads ‘Property of Martin Scherer’ and handwriting that reads ‘19th century Hudson River signed Chase’.

- canvas has been relined with wax; small spots of in-painting scattered throughout composition; faint craquelure throughout painting; small chips and flaking throughout frame molding, especially along edges; red bole revealed along edges of frame; small stains and scratches throughout frame; scratches, chips, and stains through verso of frame.
