Collection of Pre Prohibition Christian Moerlein Stoneware Quart Bottles
Item Details
A collection of four pre-Prohibition Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. Old Jug Lager Krug-Bier jugs. After moving to Cincinnati as an immigrant from Bavaria in 1842, Moerlein established a brewery in a predominantly German neighborhood in just over a decade. Another decade later, and Moerlein stood as the most prominent brewer in Cincinnati. His most popular beer was Old Jug Lager Krug-Bier. The Christian Moerlein Brewing Company continued to operate after his death in 1897. These bottles were manufactured by the Port Dundas Pottery Co. of Glasgow, Scotland; and are in the ‘quart’ size.
