Early 20th-Century Thulin Gilt and Gesso Frame
Item Details
An early twentieth-century gilt and gesso frame by Thulin, dated 1920. This frame features a simple, elegant design consisting of a stepped cavetto with curved edges. The verso is hand carved with the Thulin hallmark, dated 1920, and numbered 640. A tag attached to the verso is marked with a stamp that reads ‘Property of Martin Scherer’ and handwriting that reads ‘Thulin Frame 1920’.
Condition
- small chips throughout gesso, especially present to right side; areas of exposed red bole throughout frame; craquelure and flaking throughout gilding; stains and scratches throughout frame; small holes to verso; stains, chips, and scratches throughout verso.
