A phrenology head after L. N. Fowler. The pedestal of the bust is marked ‘Phrenology By L. N. Fowler’ and the sides are marked ‘L. N. Fowler – Ludgate Circus – London’ and ‘Entered at Stationers Hall’. The rear section of the pedestal has a statement from Fowler about his study of ‘crania’. The bust’s skull is marked into various segments where some people thought characteristics emanated. Lorenzo Fowler had a business in 19th century London making and selling these busts.
