Item Details
A daguerreotype portrait of a man, dating to circa the 1850s. This image depicts a young man in a top hat, cravat and plaid jacket, looking towards the viewer with an indifferent expression and a half-smoked cigar in his mouth. The portrait is matted under glass in half of a wood case with leather covering. The gold tone oval mat is stamped ‘M. Wright’ and ‘Artist St. Louis’.
Condition
- half of a diptych case retaining clasp on right side of case; leather finish on case is wearing off; degradation of image around edges; debris under glass; handwriting to inside of case. (ARTIAS HS)
