A collection of six volumes of literature and philosophy, primarily Classical works, published by the Franklin Library between 1979 and 1982. These special edition books are leatherbound hardcovers with raised bands, gilt page edges and gilt cover decoration. The books in this collection are the Aeneid of Virgil (tr. John Dryden), the Annals of Tacitus (tr. Alfred John Church and William Jackson Brodribb), Aristotle’s Rhetoric and On Poetics in one volume (tr. W. Rhys Roberts and Ingram Bywater), Homer’s The Odyssey (tr. in contemporary verse by Robert Fitzgerald), Voltaire’s Candide (tr. Tobias Smollet) and Twenty-Nine Essays of Michel de Montaigne (tr. Donald M. Frame).
