Paul Chidlaw Original 1976 Abstract Oil on Composite Board

Item Details

An original 1976 abstract oil painting on composite board by well-listed American Abstract Expressionist, Paul Chidlaw (Ohio; 1900-1989). The image depicts a flurry of hardly-mixed pigments spread across the pictorial space, forming a surreal, chaotic landscape of cosmic dust. Artist signature and date are marked to the verso. Presented without glass in a silver tone wooden frame.

Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati and taught at the Art Academy, mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract Expressionist movement at the time, and remains one of Cincinnati’s most collected native artists. His artwork is displayed in the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
