Jack Meanwell Original 1999 Oil on Canvas Board "Mountain Rhythm"

Item Details

An original 1999 alla prima Abstract Expressionist oil painting on canvas board by well-listed and beloved Cincinnati artist, Jack Meanwell (1919 – 2005), titled Mountain Rhythm. Executed in thick impasto, loosely mixed pigments are caked onto the canvas with a palette knife, forming tactile mountain peaks and terrain. Artist signature and date are marked to the lower left. The title is marked to the verso. This painting is mounted in a simple wood frame. An instructor at the Art Academy of Cincinnati for over twenty-five years, Meanwell holds a special place among collected Cincinnati painters and is certainly comparable in many respects to Paul Chidlaw. The pair had their works exhibited together in 2010 at the Mary Ran Gallery, in an exhibit called “Paul Chidlaw and Jack Meanwell – Battle of the Abstract Expressionists.”
