Early 20th Century Louis XIV Style Gilt and Gesso Frame
Item Details
An early twentieth-century Louis XIV style gilt and gesso frame. This frame exhibits Baroque elements in the corners featuring large foliate scroll motifs. The back edge is decorated with a low-relief egg-and-dart pattern, and the sight edge features a low-relief acanthus leaf pattern. A label to the verso reads ‘Made in Belgium’ and a label from Marty Scherer Fine Paintings is adhered to the verso. A tag is attached to the verso, stamped ‘Property of Martin Scherer’ with handwriting that reads ‘20th century European made in Belgium’
Condition
- large areas of chipped gesso molding, especially at corner motifs and projected edges; scratches, cracks, and discoloration throughout, including verso; chips along rabbit edges.
