19th Century French Barbizon Style Gilt and Gesso Frame
Item Details
A nineteenth-century French Barbizon style gilt and gesso frame. The prominent central border design features running laurel-and-berry molding with frets in the middle; the inner cove lining features a running acanthus molding on top of a fluted ground, and the extreme outer edge features a thin border of running lobed flower motifs. Two wood inserts are present to the verso of each corner. A tag is attached to the verso that is stamped ‘Property of Martin Scherer’ and handwriting that reads ‘19th Century’.
Condition
- cracks throughout molding; small chips throughout molding; large loose piece of molding to center of left edge.

- measurement of frame; rabbit size measures approximately 19"W x 36.5"H; wood inserts measure 1.25" thick.
