Jack Fang Oil Painting of an Urban Doorway

An original painting, dated 1966, on stretched canvas by Jack Fang (Chinese, 1926-1990) illustrating an urban landscape with the center of the composition featuring an open, arched doorway flanked by distressed stucco walls with the paint applied in an impasto manner creating texture. A figure carries a pail in the background while a second figure sits at the doorway with his head resting on his forearms, the story left up to the viewer for interpretation. The painting is signed by the artist both in English and in Chinese character at the upper left corner, then housed in a wood frame bearing the Closson’s foil sticker on the back. Also included with the painting is a soft cover book dedicated to the artist’s sculpture, water colors and oil paintings, published in the Republic of China and inscribed by the artist in 1970. Two Christmas cards signed by the artist dated 1970 and 1971 are tucked within the book.

Condition

The painting is in good condition, the book’s binding is loose.
