Antique Italian Folk Art Shadowbox Shrine for St. Rita of Cascia with Reverse Glass Painting
Item Details
An antique turn-of-the-century Italian folk art shadowbox shrine for Saint Rita of Cascia. This shrine contains a hand-painted cast plaster form of Saint Rita, and depicts her wearing her habit and gown, her rosary dangling to her side, as she clutches a gilt Cross in her left hand and holds it to her heart. She bears a bleeding head wound of her partial Stigmata, as she stares toward the heavens with an aching peace in her eyes. Silk flowers flank her feet. Her name is reverse-glass painted to the top corners of antique hand-rolled glass that protects the shrine. She is mounted in an oak frame with cast interior molding with a gilt finish.
Condition
- scratches to the frame. Reverse glass painting is lifting in a few areas but remains intact. Accretion under glass.
