Peter Robert Keil Abstract Oil Portrait on Board of Woman
Item Details
An abstract oil painting on board of a woman by listed German-born artist Peter Robert Keil (b. 1942), created in 1972. Abstracted to simplified lines and brushstrokes, this portrait features a frontal view of a woman’s face. The subject is portrayed with Keil’s signature style consisting of sweeping black outlines and vibrant colors applied in large gestural brushstrokes. The painting is signed and dated to the lower right and it remains unframed.
Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miro. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
