A palace-size, hand-knotted wool Sarouk area rug. This impressive rug features a deep scarlet red field populated with large floral racemes and stylized, decorated potted vase forms, filler palmettes and elongated lancet leaves in a varied palette of deep blue, pale ochre and yellow, bright and pale blues, ruby and shades of green. The field is framed by a compound floral border, featuring a resolved, classic_herati_ border in the field colors, with large flowerheads and palmettes on a deep indigo blue field. It has overcast edges with a woven cotton kilim skirt to either end, rather than warp fringe. It is illegibly tagged with production numbers to reverse.
