Hand-Knotted Lenkoran and Mir Serabend Area Rugs

A pair of antique hand-knotted area rugs. Featured is an antique Caucasian Lenkoran rug with a single four-legged turtle medallion to the center, having a pendant with boteh to either end in a palette of indigo, red-orange, mocha and taupe resting on a deep indigo blue field. The inner border features a repeated hooked triangular form, leading to unusual spandrels with a hook to the top and lobed elements within, all in the medallion colors. It has a compound border with Talish elements, having cruciform and stylized floral elements. The primary border features a boteh motif flanked by eight-pointed stars within octagons. It has overcast edges and cotton warp fringe to the ends. Unmarked. Included is an antique Serabend rug having an allover red-orange field populated with boteh and framed by _boteh and flowerhead borders in red-orange, mocha and ecru. The wide primary border features a shekeri meander border of arrow tips and serrated elements in the field colors, finished with guard borders of a small form meander on a red-orange field. It has overcast edges and a wool foundation with wool warp fringe. Unmarked. Please note condition details.

- to poor for age and use. There are numerous tears, significant fraying and separation of selvedge in some areas.
