Henry Kallem Oil Painting on Canvas Double-Sided Abstraction

Item Details

A double-sided abstract oil painting on linen canvas titled 6 by listed abstract artist Henry Kallem (New York; 1912 – 1985). Depicted on the front are three gradient patterns in yellow, purple, and green. The gradient patterns are rendered into two trapezoids and a triangle. On the reverse there is a black and white gradient with a red line down the center. Kallem is known to sign his works on the canvas verso. This work features two canvases stretched onto the same bar, preventing the inspection of the versos. Presented unframed.

Henry Kallem was born in Pennsylvania. He began his artistic studies with his father, Morris Kallem, who was a portrait painter. Kallem received formal training at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the National Academy of Design in New York City. He exhibited at the 1939 New York World’s Fair and won first prize at the Pepsi Cola Exhibition of 1947. Kallem’s work can be found in museums and galleries such as the Corcoran Galleries in Washington as well as private collections.
