Samuel Cousins Antique 1867 Mezzotint after Sir Edwin Landseer "The Connoisseurs"

An antique 1867 mezzotint on paper by well-listed English engraver Samuel Cousins (1801 – 1887) after the original painting by well-listed English painter Edwin Henry Landseer (1802 – 1873), titled The Connoisseurs. The image depicts, in rich, buttery detail and value, a seated white-haired gentleman rendering his self-portrait, as his two handsome canine companions flank him, watching him work over his shoulder. Title is printed to the lower margin, and below it the printed text reads, ‘Engraved from the original Picture in the possession of H. R. H. the Prince of Wales, K. G.’ This print is mounted behind oatmeal mat, under glass in a wood frame with cast inlaid border and a wire to the verso.
Condition
- discoloration to print. Finish of frame has cracking throughout cast border and wear to edges and corners.
