Mid-Twentieth Century Mexican 960 Silver and Turquoise Brooch by Rafael Dominguez

A mid-twentieth century 960 silver and turquoise brooch by Rafael Dominguez (1911-1980). Dominguez was a lifelong silversmith, taught by his elders and apprenticed with William Spratling, whom many consider to be the ‘Father of Taxco Sterling’ and later started his Casa Dominguez silver studio in Taxco in 1943. This piece is typical of Dominguez’ work and features a stylized blossom design with a rope bezel at center around the round green turquoise cabochon. The piece can be worn as a brooch or a pendant. It is stamped 960, Taxco and RD. The total weight of the piece is 0.98 ozt.
