Item Details
An oil painting on canvas titled Country Cottage by well-listed British artist Augustus Spencer (1860-1924). This painting depicts wood cottages in a meadow with purple flowers, green shrubs, and trees to the background. The painting is signed ‘A. Spencer’ to the lower right and presented in an ornate gilt wood frame with hanging wire to the verso. The stretcher verso is marked in ink ‘#3854 Country Cottage A. Spencer’.
Condition
- stretcher marks; craquelure throughout especially in sky; yellowing to varnish; small area of lift to lower right; large chunks of frame chipped at bottom corners; small chips throughout frame; cracks to gesso finish of frame.
