Hand-Colored Etching Map of Eastern States

An original hand-colored etching on paper. This work depicts a map of eastern states including Long Island, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. The piece is marked ‘Map No. 2 Eastern States Designed to Accompany Smith’s Geography for Schools’ to the lower right. It is presented behind a mat, under glass in a frame with a wire to the verso ready to hang.
Condition
- frame of map has nicks and scratches throughout, mainly on left side of frame; discoloration throughout map; possible water damage; map is ripped at top center and bottom right corner; tape is coming loose from top of matting on verso; adhesive residue from old label at bottom center; smudges and marks on matting.

- measurements are of frame; map itself measures 11.25" W x 9"H x 0.01" D.
