Bronze Chinese Horse and Rider Incense Burner
Item Details
A refurbished bronze figural incense burner depicting a Chinese rider atop a bridled horse. The man is unattached to the horse – so that incense can be placed in the cavity in the horse’s back and removed – and fits in the saddle with his feet just above the stirrups. He holds one arm out with his hand in a gripping position, while the other hand tugs at his long beard, giving him a pensive look. The horse is poised with one leg suspended in the air, adorned with decorative tassels and a floral-embellished saddle. He has a refurbished front leg and tail, made from wood with a bronze finish. The sculpture is unmarked.
Condition
- The piece has been refurbished with a wood tail and front, bent leg. The pieces are loosely fitted into place. The rider may have been holding a lance or weapon, originally.
