Unusual Machine Woven Couristan "Kashimar" Area Rug

An unusual machine woven Kashimar area rug by Couristan. This rug features a central field of geometric quatrefoil floral elements in a panel pattern, an inner border of stylized oxen, flanked by a floral band and a wide primary border of stylized human figures on horseback, flanked by an outer border of square motifs with serged edges; tagged to the reverse. The rug pattern is a loose interpretation of the famous Pazyryk carpet, which origin has been dated to approximately 300 B.C.E. and attributed to ancient Scythian culture.
