Hand-Knotted Memling Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Central Asian wool area rug. This rug is rendered in a palette of cochineal red, orange, ivory, navy, and green. It features an allover design of bright latticed memling guls over a deep red field, the field at the bottom punctuated by small geometric flowers. The field is framed by running water minor borders and a primary border populated with abstract geometric motifs over ivory. The rug has overcast edges, finishing in short natural wool warp fringe. A tag on the reverse indicates size but does not identify a maker.
