Woodblock Restrike after Utagawa Hiroshige I "The Monkey Bridge in Kai Privince"
Item Details
A Japanese woodblock restrike with nishiki-e coloring after the original work titled The Monkey Bridge in Kai Privince (甲陽猿橋之図) by Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock master Utagawa Hiroshige I (広重筆) (1797–1858). The image depicts travelers, on foot and on donkey, trudging across a harrowingly high-altitude bridge stretching from one treacherous cliff to another above a rushing river. A red seal and calligraphed inscriptions occupy upper right corner, additional inscriptions to lower right. This work is mounted under a thin bamboo mat without glass in a wooden frame with a bamboo semblance. A hanging wire is attached to the verso.
