Hand Painted Japanese Kutani Hotei

Item Details

A hand painted Japnaese Kutani ware Hotei (布袋, Budai in Japanese). A folkloric deity of happiness and contentment who is also known as the Laughing Buddha. He is depicted smiling, with a rotund belly, and fat earlobes and carries a bag over his back that he uses to feed the poor and needy. The underside has an impressed ‘Kutani’ (九谷) seal.
