1891 Folk Art Diorama of Two Men Playing Cards

An antique, Folk Art diorama shadow box depicting a scene of two men playing cards, set inside a tavern or residence. The piece is three-dimensionally carved with wonderful minute detail throughout including a folk-painted table with benches, a hutch, numerous decorative plates with shelving, a brick stove with fiery cauldron and an open door that offers a glimpse into the surrounding outdoor landscape. Carved into the door header reads ‘C+M+B’ and to the left below a windowsill is a wall-hanging dated ‘1891’ placed discreetly behind two men playing cards.
