After John J. Audubon and R. Havell Offset Lithographs "Ruffed Grouse" and "Mallard Duck"

A group of two offset lithographs after the original R. Havell engravings of John J. Audubon’s (1785-1851) ornithological illustrations. The well-listed naturalist and artist meticulously painted and recorded the native birds of North America first in the 1830s and collected them into a series titled The Birds of America. Featured in this set are Ruffed Grouse and Mallard Duck, each originating from an Audubon-themed mid-century promotional calendar offered by the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. The prints are presented under glass in cherry wood frames with hanging wires to the verso.
Condition
- foxing, discoloration and fading to prints; chipping and scratching to both frames; old adhesive is holding backing boards to each frame; backing boards are made with old RC Cola ads.
