Pair of Antique Richard Earlom Etchings with Mezzotint
Item Details
A pair of antique etchings with mezzotints after drawings by Claude le Lorrain. The plates were engraved by Richard Earlom and were published in 1776 by John Boydell Engravers. To the center border, the prints are marked ‘From the Original Drawing, in the Collection of the Duke of Devonshire.’ One print depicts workers and farm animals in the shade of a tree, with a stone bridge and a body of water in the distance. It is marked to the lower left corner ‘No. 137.’ The other depicts one woman riding a cow among other women, with a castle in the distance. It is marked ‘No. 144’. Both are presented with double pink and tan mats, under glass, in gilded wood frames, and are ready to hang.
Condition
- some light marks, discoloration to paper in areas, consistent with age
- marks and scuffs to areas of the frames
