A mixed media on Canvas titled Signal Man by listed artist Robert T. Baribeau (New York/Oregon; b. 1949), created in 1993. This work is created with fabric swatches to the lower right, plastic, painted with acrylic paint. Rendered in an abstract style is a figure leaning slightly forward with a protruding object on his head. The figure is rendered on and undefined background with sweeping yellow, blue, and gray hues. The piece is signed with the artist’s initials and dated in the lower corners of the canvas; one is etched into the painting whole the other is written in paint. To the verso, the canvas backing is signed with the artist full name, titled, and has a dedication that reads ‘To Bill’. Presented without glass in a gold tone composite frame.

Robert T. Baribeau received an undergraduate degree from Portland State University in 1977 and an MFA from the Pratt Institute in New York in 1978. Baribeau’s work primarily focuses on the ‘study of the human experience with nature’ as stated in his artist statement. He has exhibited work throughout New York at the Allan Stone Gallery and the Anna Zorina Gallery as well as group exhibitions at Neuberger Museum, New York, Jeremy Stone Gallery, New York, and the Westport Arts Center, Westport, Connecticut, to name a few. Currently, Baribeau is a faculty member at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon.
