Item Details
An 19th century Meissen porcelain objet d’art featuring cherubs flanking a scrolled cartouche bearing the coat of arms for Augustus the Strong (Saxon Prince Elector, 1670-1733). One hand painted cherub wears military garb signifying the War of Austrian Succession while the cherub to the right dons a lion pelt and holds a crude club. The porcelain figural piece is marked to the base with the cobalt blue crossed swords, the number 1656 in script and stamped numbers 141 and 163. The original Meissen modeler is believed to be Johann Joachim Kaendler who created Meissen porcelain primarily for Augustus the Strong.
