Framed Prints After George Gower and Don Silvestro dei Gherarducci

A set of two framed prints after 14th-16th century works. Featured is a contemporary giclee on paper after a 1579 oil on panel portrait by listed English portrait artist George Gower (1540-1596). The piece, titled The Plimpton ‘Sieve’, Portrait of Queen Elizabeth I, depicts the virgin queen holding a sieve in her left hand. The image includes the royal coat of arms, printed inscriptions in Latin and a portion of a map image of the British Empire. The print is matted in white and presented under glass in a gold tone frame with a hanging bracket and print information attached to the verso. Also included is an offset lithograph on paper after a 1392–1399 leaf illustration by Don Silvestro dei Gherarducci, titled Nativity, in an initial P. The original image was discovered in a Gradual text produced by Santa Maria degli Angeli monastery in Florence, Italy. The piece is double matted in off-white and pink and presented under glass in a gold tone frame with hanging loops and print information attached to the verso. - discoloration and foxing to edges of both mats; minor abrasions and scratching to frames, especially to edges; tape to verso of Gherarducci frame.
