An oil painting on canvas by listed artist Elias Bancroft (1846 – 1924), titled A Sunny Morning. This painting depicts a rustic European town that is accented by cobblestone houses that tower to the distance before a calm stream to the foreground. An artist signature is seen to the lower left corner of the composition. The painting is presented in a gold-tone wooden frame featuring moulded shell, scrolled and rosette motifs to the border. Affixed to the lower leg of the frame is a placard etched with the artist’s name and title. To the verso is hanging wire and painted information about the piece. - lacquer finish is built up at top central portion of painting; top right portion of frame is broken; canvas is toned; backing paper has been ripped off leaving residue. (ARTIAS)
