A reconstituted quartz lion cub figurine. This piece depicts the figure of a young lion that is laying down. The original, also made of quartz, was carved between 3100 and 2900 BCE in the earliest stages of civilization in what is now Egypt. This reconstituted quartz replica, smaller than the original, was sold from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and is marked ‘MMA 1983’ to the underside.
