Pair of Antique Dressed China Dolls

Item Details

A pair of antique dressed china dolls. Both of the dolls have hand-painted porcelain or china heads and hands and cloth bodies. The first doll has black painted enamel hair with ringlets. She appears to retain her original antique clothing—an elaborate brown serge traveling suit, which is trimmed with blue rick-rack. The jacket is open at the front, with long sleeves and rick-rack on the cuffs, and down the front. The matching skirt has double ruffles at the hem, and an apron-like piece over the top, all trimmed with the same blue rick-rack. She wears undergarments of white cotton, including a shift, bloomers, socks and leather shoes. The other doll has short, black curls framing her face. She wears what appears to be a newer, reproduction hand-stitched brown sateen dress, featuring puffed long sleeves, which are gathered at the wrists. The brown brocade bodice buttons up the front with tiny buttons. The full, floor-length skirt gathers at the waist, and the hem is plain. Her undergarments include a lace trimmed slip or petticoat and lace trimmed bloomers, and her painted-on black boots have buttons up the sides. No maker’s marks noted.
