Pair of Hand-Painted Antique Porcelain Dolls
Item Details
A pair of antique porcelain dolls. Both dolls have hand-painted glazed porcelain heads, with hand-painted facial features, and cloth bodies, with hand-stitched clothing. The clothing appears to be original to the dolls, or to be made of period-appropriate antique lace and fabrics. The taller doll has black painted hair, blue eyes, and bright rosy cheeks. She has a china head and shoulders, hands and feet, and a cloth body, upper arms and upper legs. She wears a light colored, fitted, sleeveless muslin shift, which is trimmed with lace along the hem, and white pantaloons. Her painted-on boots are red, and she has hand-painted blue bows on her shins. The number ‘4’ is embossed into her back. A lovely bride doll has black hair and blue eyes with rosy cheeks. She wears a long-sleeved taffeta bridal gown with a high, lacy collar and bodice, accented with lavish embroidery and lace. The waist is fitted, with a point in front. The cuffs of the sleeves are trimmed with lace. The hem of the skirt has lavish lace swags and bows, and she holds a fabric flower bouquet with long streamer ribbons. Her hands appear to be made of molded wax or other material, over a cloth base. No maker’s marks.
