Hand-Knotted Persian Gabbeh Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian gabbeh area rug. This thick-pile rug is rendered in a variegated and abrashed palette of camel, crimson/rust, shades of slate blue, with yellow, black, and green inclusions. Included in the striated field is a stepped crimson notch with figures of camels standing and sitting, along with a human figure and a horse or donkey. Outside of the crimson zone are small birds and a camel. The rug has triple overcast edges, finishing at either end with short knotted wool warp fringe. It has a cleaner’s tag on the underside but is otherwise unmarked.
