The four Martin Brothers established a pottery and produced Victorian art pottery between 1873 and 1923. They worked primarily in salt-glazed ware, a method of throwing rock salt into the hot kiln while firing to produce various surface textures and sheens. The palette they are known for is a darker, muted one in shades of brown, greens, blues and deep to light grey. Their shapes included gourd and vegetal shapes, “grotesque” bird sculptures, tiles and figures. Please see the link below for more information on these prolific, creative brothers.
