An original watercolor seascape by notable Cincinnati artist Carl Zimmerman
(1900-1985). The work on paper expressively illustrates waves crashing on a rocky shoreline in tones of gray, blue and watery green. The lower left corner bears an embossed stamp ‘Estate of Carl Zimmerman’. The watercolor is matted and mounted on foam core then protected in clear vinyl wrap.
Carl Zimmerman was a prominent Cincinnati artist, known for his mural and oil paintings, as well as his teaching ability. He studied under Reginald Grooms, John E. Weis and Herman Wessel. In 1927, Zimmerman received his first commission to paint a mural through the recommendation of John E. Weiss, and after much success he was commissioned to paint murals for large cities across the United States. Zimmerman taught at the Art Academy, Taft Museum and Cincinnati Art Museum.
