W. Moroni Oil on Canvas Portrait of a 19th Century Man

An oil on canvas portrait by W. Moroni. This quarter length portrait depicts an early 19th-century man in three-quarter profile. He features light brown hair with a graying queue, oval eyes, long pronounced nose, and a defined chin against the starched white collar and cravat. He is dressed in formal black with brass buttons and gold fringe epaulets suggesting a military profession. It is signed in the bottom right corner ‘W. Moroni’ however no clear artist attribution could be made. This work is presented in a gold tone wooden frame, wired for hanging.
Condition
- both bottom corners of frame are chipped; on the back, canvas shows some oil paint stains; backing paper is ripped off but tufts are stuck in staples throughout frame.
