Hand-colored Engraving After William Powell Frith

A hand-colored engraving by William Holl the Younger (1807-1871) after an original painting by William Powell Firth (1819-1909) titled An English Merry-making in the Olden Time. This jubilant print depicts a large group of happy people dancing, talking, and playing games with each other in the English countryside. To the lower margin are the original painter’s name, engraver’s name, and title. The print is mounted beneath a single layer of white matting with a decorative fillet, and is presented behind glass in a decorative frame with hanging wire present to verso.
