Original Oil Portrait by Edger Yeager (1904-1997), Framed

Item Details

An original oil portrait on stretched canvas by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997). The portrait illustrates a female sitter wearing a green dress with a white collar, her arm casually draped over the edge of a chair. The artist has used broad, confident brush strokes with bold black outlining to create a straight forward and efficient portrait, signed in yellow to the lower right corner and dated 1934. The cut out at the back of the painting reveals the artist’s bold initials ‘EY’ and a card attached to the verso reads ‘Painting Conservation By Collector’s Art Group, Cincinnati, Ohio.’ The painting has been professionally presented in a lovely carved wood frame with gold edges.

Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals, Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, Washington D.C., the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
