A hand-knotted wool Isfahan palace rug. This rug features delicate arabesque patterning in a herati pattern throughout the field on a deep black backdrop, in a palette of deep red orange, shades of sage green, taupe, mocha, ruby and pale blues, with ivory accents for high contrast. A herati pattern with large rounded palmettes and scrolled leaf forms in the same palette makes up the primary border on a cream colored field, flanked by floral meander guard borders in complementary colors. It has a tight knot density with overcast edges and cotton warp fringe to each end. Unmarked.
