Original Landscape in Oil by Carl Zimmerman (1900-1985)

Item Details

An original oil on board landscape by well known and collected Cincinnati artist Carl Zimmerman (1900-1985). The colorful and expressive landscape is executed in confident, quick brush strokes, illustrating a grove of pine trees with green bark and a blue body of water in the background. The artist has portrayed a light source from the right casting long purple shadows from the trees. The artist’s signature is found in the lower right and the painting is presented in a very plain painted wood edge.

Carl Zimmerman was a prominent Cincinnati artist, studying under Reginald Grooms, John E. Weis and Herman Wessel. In 1927, Zimmerman received his first commission to paint a mural through the recommendation of John E. Weiss, and after much success he was known for his murals in cities across the United States. Zimmerman taught at the Art Academy, Taft Museum and The University ofCincinnati. For further information concerning Carl Zimmerman, please refer to the link listed below.
